The history

                                                     The History

We celebrate July 4th because on July 4th 1776, The members of the second continental congress adopted the last part of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. Afterword the Declaration of Independence was read to Americans everywhere. Towns and cities were hearing this brilliant document. In 1777 the People in Philadelphia remembered July 4th and they rung bells, shot guns, candles were lit, and they sent fireworks to the sky! Though during the War of Independence the celebrations were a little modest. The war finally ended in 1783 and in some places it became a holiday like in Boston it replaced the Boston massacre (march 5th) and became the patriotic holiday. Speeches, Parades, and fireworks marked the day of July 4th. In 1941 congress declared it was a federal holiday.

                                                                  Our own creations

We started to make our own traditions as the time went buy like baseball games, watermelon eating contests, and having cook outs with common food like hamburgers and hot dogs. We would play games of all kind and make tons of different kind of pies.

                                                                   Other places

In Boston and Philadelphia people from all over the united states of America come. They have huge crowds during July 4th and celebrate on every street corner. In Boston, the USS John F. Kennedy often sails into the harbor, while the Boston Pops Orchestra holds a televised concert on the banks of the Charles River, featuring American music and ending with the 1812 Overture.

Philadelphia holds its celebrations at Independence Hall, where historic scenes are reenacted and the Declaration of Independence is read.

                                                           Other parties

Other places have different traditions like the 3-day-rodeo in flagstaff, Arizona and Lititz, Pennsylvania light hundreds of candles and put them in the water called "The Queen of candles"

                                             The Declaration

The Declaration of Independence has changed America so much it has influenced us now that almost every single American celebrates this document being written. All over the country we may celebrate it differently but we are all celebrating our independence.
